If that ain't country

David Allen Coe is a moderately well known country artist from the era of "Outlaw Country." Being an outlaw artist in the 70s and 80s was much like being a gangster rapper of the 90s in that you got more respect by committing more egregious crimes. This mentality incentivises artists to exaggerate the number and severity of the crimes they committed. Like many of our current "outlaw" artists, David Allen Coe was eventually questioned about the legitimacy of his claims. He was never able to corroborate his claim of being on death row or to the number of prisons he had been in. The concept of lying to get famous in nothing new. So the next time a musician tell you his face is scared due to a fully automatic rifle, see if the bullet holes look like acne scars.

Regardless of his actual criminal background David Allen Coe is a great singer and song writer.
